Zumba, the fitness dance craze that has taken the United States by storm, started simply enough in Colombia in the Nineties when aerobics teacher Beto Perez forgot his usual music and had to improvise around the music he had in his car.

Perez decided to call the exercise Zumba, after the Colombian slang word meaning to buzz like a bee or move fast. Zumba fuses the hypnotic Latin rhythms of salsa and merengue with easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program.
